The Howard Leight Impact Sport uses built-in microphones that amplify commands and other ambient sounds to a safe 82 dB. The Howard Leight Impact Sport therefore actively listens and switches off automatically when the sound reaches 82 dB. At that point, the Howard Leight Impact Sport effectively blocks out the noise.
